NC Saves - Build Wealth, Not Debt
Overview:
The North Carolina Saves Campaign is part of a national effort called America Saves. This educational/marketing initiative is designed
to encourage people to change their habits about money to build wealth, not debt. Through
information, advice and encouragement, this savings program works with savers to develop
realistic savings or debt reduction goals and provides local resources to help them work
toward their financial goals. NC Treasurer, Richard Moore, is the chairman of the NC Saves
Coalition and is leading the statewide effort to promote savings and financial education.

What makes NC Saves unique?
$
Saver Accounts:
By partnering with financial institutions, NC Saves offers access to special no fee
savings accounts so that savers can get started with small amounts of money and not get
eaten up with fees for not having a specific minimum balance. A list of participating
financial institutions will be available by May 2005.

Individualized Wealth Coaching:
Savers have the opportunity to meet with a volunteer wealth coach who can help them craft
their monthly spending plan to free up money for savings. Wealth coaches also can check-in
with Savers to see if they need help or advice in working toward their goals. These wealth coaches are volunteers from the
community who will have expertise and training to provide guidance in decisions about
money.
$
Financial Education:
Financial workshops are offered to Savers on topics that include: budgeting, reducing food
expenses, credit reports, identity theft, homeownership, and many more. Savers Clubs can also be started to provide peer
support and encouragement.
