Cash ö Reuniting People with Unclaimed Property
Overview:
When financial institutions, insurance companies, public
agencies, and business have bank accounts, wages, utility
deposits, insurance policy proceeds, stocks, bonds, and
contents of safe deposit boxes for which there have been no
documented transactions or contact with the owners for a
statutory period of time, state law requires that these
institutions turn over the ãunclaimed propertyä to the
state. The Department of the Treasury, under the leadership
of NC Treasurer Richard Moore, is working to ãreuniteä
this property with rightful owners.
How
can you find out about unclaimed property?
You
can check to see if you or someone you know has unclaimed
property by visiting www.nccash.com
and following the directions on the website. The process is
simple and itâs FREE! If the website search reveals
unclaimed property, print out the claims form, complete it
and return it to the Department of Treasury.
Spread
the word·
There
is currently over $600 million in unclaimed property being
held at the state. Tell everyone you know to check the
database to see if some of it is theirs!
NC
Cash Clubs:
As
part of the effort to return money to its rightful owners,
NC Treasurer Richard Moore is enlisting the assistance of
people across the state to volunteer for NC Cash Clubs.
These local volunteers help the effort by increasing
awareness about unclaimed property and helping other check
the database. For more information about volunteering for NC
Cash Clubs, email celestec@cccsofwnc.org
